Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia

Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia | World Cup 2018, Group A | Friday, June 20 | Rostov Arena

Jose Gimenez scored a later winner as Uruguay beat Egypt in their first group game and victory over Saudi Arabia today will confirm their place in the knockout stages.

The South Americans were good value for the win but Luis Suarez will be concerned with his own form in front of goal after a number of misses.

Saudi Arabia's confidence will be rock bottom after a surprise 5-0 loss in the opening game. They must win to stay alive in the tournament.

Team news
Officials say an engine of a Russian plane carrying the Saudi Arabia team to a World Cup host city caught fire during landing.

Russia's federal agency for air traffic says in a statement that the Airbus airplane flying from St. Petersburg to the southern city of Rostov-on-Don landed safely Monday night and did not require any emergency procedures.

Tuesday's statement says the passenger plane landed with both of its engines working and the passengers disembarked normally. An investigation into the incident has begun.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation posted pictures of the players exiting the plan on Monday night and a statement on Twitter saying it "would like to reassure everyone that all the Saudi national team players are safe, after a technical failure in one of the airplane engines that has just landed in Rostov-on-Don airport, and now they're heading to their residence safely."

The Saudis were beaten 5-0 by Russia in the World Cup opener in Moscow last week and play Uruguay in Rostov-on-Don on Wednesday.
Uruguay and Saudi Arabia meet for their second Group A match in Rostov-on-Don on Wednesday, with one team coming in with momentum and the other still searching for a breakthrough. Despite not playing that well in attack against a Mohamed Salah-less Egypt, Uruguay was able to squeeze out a dramatic 1-0 win at the death. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, is coming off a 5-0 thrashing from host nation Russia and probably need a win here to have any chance of moving on.

The squads are healthy and both teams are expected to field full-strength squads in this one.
